Getting to Airlie Beach
Air: Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport- Australian domestic airlines Virgin Australia, and Jetstar have daily direct flights from Brisbane as well as connecting flights from other destinations. Tiger Air offers direct flights from Sydney. The airport is the most popular gateway, with just a 25 minute drive to Airlie Beach. You have the choice of hiring a car, boarding the Whitsunday Transit bus or taking a taxi (with a shared taxi option often available).
Hamilton Island Airport is a 50 minute ferry ride to the mainland (Port of Airlie). Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia have regular flights from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Mackay which is less than 2 hours south may also be an option as it has a wider choice of flights.
Road: The turn-off to Airlie Beach is well signposted from the Bruce Highway (Highway 1) on the northern outskirts of Proserpine. It is a 30 minute drive to Airlie Beach. Follow Shute Harbour Road and continue through the newly completed streetscape once reaching Airlie Beach. The road takes you left into the Esplanade with the Airlie Beach Hotel located opposite the beach.
Bus: Leading interstate coach companies have regular services along the east coast of Australia, with Airlie Beach a regular stop. A new Transit Centre is located in the Port of Airlie around a 500 metre flat walk to the east of the hotel. Whitsunday Transit also operates a local bus service connecting Airlie Beach with Shute Harbour to the east and the Whitsunday Plaza Shopping Centre at Cannonvale. The bus stop is located adjacent to Airlie Beach Hotel car park on Coconut Grove.
Boat: Ferries to the nearby Whitsunday Islands operate several times a day from Port of Airlie.
